and so it goes

you’d think it was mid-winter the way we were today

all day, first the sniffles, then an afternoon bath

(warm waters and bubbles are always a good idea)

then two birds added to our Autumn Table,

cottage pie, kind of,

and often the thoughts of her, how she is, what she

may be doing, how it’d be if we were different

with each other

but these are the questions we are apt to ask ourselves

when you are close but far, every day

and the Little is wandering around in her tights and

taking my hand, leading me to the kitchen and back

and it’s still strange to have her so mobile

well her shoes are on their way and then

we can have many autumn walks together

and I thought, often, about ten years, five years ago

if you can betray yourself over time just by letting go

yes i wish i could knit this winter to keep my fingers busy
